The Steelhead fish ladders on El Charo Road exit going east on HY580 have
    50+ Northern Rough Wing swallows.
Park near a sign "Vulin" on El Charo Rd.and walk to the bridge looking west
you'll see the swallows repairing last years nests.
Please for your own safety do not visit this area Monday through Saturday
due to heavy gravel truck traffic form the Quarry operations.
There are several White Throated Swifts present also
View the Steelhead fish ladders while your there, the ladders were a
citizens project by Alameda Creek Alliance and Zone 7 water district.
The vision is some day again, soon (?) we'll have a steelhead trout fishery
up into Mines Road and Cedar Mountain water shed.
Going east to Livermore exiting at Airport following the to Jack London Rd.
    turning right going west.
Looking left you can view the total destruction of last years Burrowing
Owl habitat for a Sam's super store.
This site had three breeding families. July1, 2006 I counted a total of
    fifteen young at this location.
At the end of Jack London Rd. the old ranch has been removed and the field
    was being plowed.
No gulls following the tractor, but plenty of Red Wing Black Birds and
    Brewers Black Birds too.
A note on east county trails futures for birders.
There is a movement to connect Brushy Peak EBRP to Pleasanton Ridge EBRP.
The vision is a single trail following the Altamont Creek into Spring Town
Wetland Preserve then following Arroyo Mocho to HY680.
Livermore, Pleasanton city councils, County and Zone 7 are "somewhat"
    involved .
Pleasanton is planning a bridge over the Arroyo Las Positas which will lead
    HY 680.
This bridge will allow a possible spur trail south to Shadow Cliffs EBRP
and Iron Horse trail to the north.
There is much going on to open more and more areas for birding in eastern
Alameda County, it's all good, but requires citizens input.
    Interested? e-mail me.
    Good Birding
