Nice to enjoy the birds in the rain with 15 brave Merritt College students today at the EBMUD's Upper San Leandro Reservoir near Orinda/Moraga.

Notable highlights from 9 am - 3:30 pm included:

    - BALD EAGLE (1) (at reservoir) (initially spotted by Brent Plater)
    - COOPER's HAWK (3) (south of parking area on trail to ridge and on trail to reservoir)
    - SHARP-SHINNED HAWK (3) (same areas) (Kudos to Harvey Wilson for spotting the first one of the day.....)
    - HOODED MERGANSER (male and female on reservoir) (iniitally spotted by Brent Plater)

    "Second Tier"/Other species worth mentioning:

    - COMMON MERGANSER (1) (on reservoir)
    - VARIED THRUSH (8)
    - WESTERN BLUEBIRD (9)
    - RED-TAILED HAWK (11)
    - AMERICAN KESTREL (7)
    - BARN OWL feathers found by Alejandro Diaz in abandoned barn next to private/non-public trails that we accessed with an EBMUD fisheries biologist as our guide.
