A stroll around Lake Merritt this morning confirmed the continuing presence
of a several interesting birds. The male TUFTED DUCK was foraging by himself
next to the water fountain at Lakeshore and 18th Street. The male HOODED
MERGANSER remained in the company of Common and Barrow's Goldeneyes in the
channel just east of Henry Kaiser Auditorium. A pair of RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS were fishing in deep water on the lake. A RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER
was working the oaks near the big water fountain in Lakeside Park.

    Good birding,
