This morning (Nov 28), a juvenile PEREGRINE FALCON was doing quite well for
itself at Pinole Bayfront Park (at the bay end of Tennent Ave in Pinole).

When I first saw it, the falcon was sitting among the rocks at the end of
the creek outlet, surrounded by black and white (and red) feathers,
apparently having finished that meal. Shortly it took off and strafed the
shorebirds along the beach. All shorebirds took flight except one hapless
Willet which the falcon plucked neatly from the edge of the surf. The
falcon flapped around this area for quite awhile, assumably struggling with
the Willet until it stopped. Two Turkey Vultures appeared out of nowhere
to survey the possibilities. Finally, the falcon returned to the creek
mouth, this time alighting on the spit on the far side, to start phase 2 of
    its meal.

    Good birding,
