    About 15 years ago, when I was a brand new birder, I saw what turned  
    out to be a leucistic California Towhee in my neighborhood, here in  
    southern Walnut Creek.  It was very confusing to me at the time,  
    needless to say.  I kept looking in my Peterson's for a mottled  
    whitish songbird, to no avail.  After awhile it struck me that it was  
    hanging out with normally marked towhees, even doing the Towhee Two- 
    step, and I finally put two and two together.
