Bob Power?s exciting post on Saturday prompted me to load the minivan full
of kids and head to Franks?s Dump at Hayward Regional Shoreline. High
    tide was about 4.15 p.m.

South of the canal trail were 2 Red-necked Phalaropes and 3 Long-billed
    Curlews in the marsh.

North of the canal trail in the mudflat were a gazillion Red Knots and all
of the other birds that Bob described. Several Surfbirds and Ruddy
Turnstones were on the first mudflat island near the trail. Further along
were Least Terns, Elegant Terns, and Forster?s Terns.

Another birder shared scope views of a Golden-Plover sp. I wouldn?t have
found this bird among its thousand cousins on my own, but its plumage
contrasted remarkably well with the Black-bellied Plovers that surrounded
    it.
