    Hi all:

East Bay Regional Park District and the Bay Area Ridge
Trail Council celebrated the opening of Crockett Hills
Reg. Park today in Crockett (oddly enough). Not sure
who else was paying attention to the Lazuli Bunting
singing in the oaks adjacent to the guest speakers.

About a mile up from the new staging area adjacent to
Crockett Blvd., and just west of a nifty tunnel
underneath Cummings Skyway, there was a Grasshopper
Sparrow singing in the deep dry brush (I was going to
say "singing in the grassland, oddly enough," but I
figured you all had had enough of the "oddly enoughs"
in this posting already; so I won't say that).
Anyway, it's a lovely park with expansive Carquinez
Straights views, and will show enormously well come
    fall migration.

Incidentally, it's not a bird walk, but I will be
leading a hike next Saturday and I will have my
binoculars and scope, and if you like hiking in new
    places w/out developed trails.........

    good Birding,
