Friends: Searching at Jewel Lake (Tilden Nature Area, Berkeley) did not
recover the Northern Parula on Wednesday, May 24 (granted, we were looking
between 10 am and noon, not early as when it was seen and heard on Tuesday,
5/23). Dr. John Westlake, his wife Mary, and Nate (Moraga) and Ray (Orinda)
and I converged independently on the Jewel Lake dam. Some braved the poison
oak in the northwest corner, where the bird was reported from on Tuesday.
    Other birds seen (heard):
    Black Phoebe
    Pacific-slope Flycatcher
    Downy Woodpecker (female)
    Chestnut-backed Chickadee
    Black-headed Grosbeak
    Swainson's Thrush
    Mallard
    Spotted Towhee
    Allen's Hummingbird
    Wilson's Warbler
    California Towhee
    Mourning Dove
    Red-shouldered Hawk (Heard)
    Song Sparrow
    Brown Creeper
    Warbling Vireo
    Dark-eyed Junco
    Great Blue Heron

    Best of Birding!
