Six of us from the Oakland Bird Club enjoyed a near-perfect day of birding
at Sunol Regional Park. We hiked the Ohlone Trail up to Little Yosemite and
then returned along the fire road. Highlights included 2 pairs of WOOD DUCKS
at a stock pond below the Canyon View Trail, a soaring GOLDEN EAGLE, a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK nest in a sycamore south of the trailhead parking lot,
courting RED-TAILED HAWKS, a WHITE-TAILED KITE on the hunt (they've nested
in the park in past years), a single LARK SPARROW joining the WESTERN
BLUEBIRDS at the corral, displaying WILD TURKEY, and numerous returning
    neotropical migrants.

The most noteworthy migrant, a calling HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER, was in the
canopy behind the green barn before club members arrived. By the time the
group went in search, the canopy action was limited to Starlings. Other
noteworthy returnees included multiple CASSIN'S and WARBLING VIREOS,
ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, a male WESTERN TANAGER, and a BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WARBLER. At the foot bridge, we watched a first-year male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE
steal nesting material from a woven basket nest. We also found a bright
adult male in the area a few minutes later.
