Friends: Up at Tilden Nature Area in Berkeley Sunday AM I saw a Swainson's Thrush on the Jewel Lake Boardwalk
at the confluence of Wildcat Creek and the lake (at this point the Boardwalk is a bridge). This seems really early for Swainson's Thrush in the Nature Area. A Purple Finch pair (not nesting, just hanging out) was a little further on the path from the lake bench to the dam/waterfall. Black Phoebes at the dam may be nesting under the walkway. Lots of Black-headed Grosbeaks ("the Grosbeaks return when the Box-elder blooms!"), Wilson's Warblers, Orange-crowned Warblers.
