    Good Afternoon 
    
    Derek Heins and I visited two areas around the delta
    on Sunday. Both proved enjoyably birdy. Details are as
    follows.
    
    Black Diamond Mines Regional Park
    No Canyon Wrens seen or heard but otherwise it was
    very active with a total of 53 species and 1 Bobcat:
    
    Birds we got:
    Mallard 
    Turkey Vulture
    Killdeer
    Northern Harrier
    Sharp-shinned Hawk
    Red-shouldered Hawk
    Red-tailed Hawk
    American Kestrel
    Rock Dove
    Mourning Dove
    Anna?s Hummingbird
    Selasphorus Hummingbird
    Acorn Woodpecker
    Nuttall?s Woodpecker
    Northern Flicker
    Western Wood Pewee
    Black Phoebe
    Olive-sided Flycatcher
    Ash-throated Flycatcher
    Western Kingbird
    Barn Swallow
    Violet-green Swallow
    Scrub Jay
    Common Raven
    Oak Titmouse
    Bushtit
    Bewick?s Wren
    House Wren (numerous)
    Western Bluebird
    Northern Mockingbird
    Loggerhead Shrike
    European Starling
    Hutton?s Vireo
    Yellow Warbler
    Orange-crowned Warbler
    Black-throated Gary Warbler
    Yellow-rumped Warbler
    Townsend?s Warbler
    Hermit Warbler
    Wilson?s Warbler
    Rufous-sided Towee
    California Towhee
    Chipping Sparrow (2 on Chaparral Trail)
    Song Sparrow
    Golden-crowned Sparrow
    White-crowned Sparrow
    Dark-eyed Junco
    Red-winged Blackbird
    Western Meadowlark
    Bullock?s Oriole
    House Finch
    Lesser Goldfinch (lots!)
    
    Birds I'm not sure about:
    Cassin's Vireo and Warbling vireo - both too fleeting
    for an honest call.
    
    
    Bethel Island/Holland Tract area
    Birds we got:
    Double-crested Cormorant
    Great Blue Heron
    Great Egret
    Canada Goose
    White-tailed Kite
    Ring-necked Pheasant
    Common Moorhen
    American Coot
    Black-necked Stilt
    Caspian Tern
    Forster?s Tern
    Burrowing Owls (3 on north side of Delta Rd just after
    old windmill)
    Belted Kingfisher
    Downy Woodpecker
    Northern Rough-winged Swallow
    Cliff Swallow
    Marsh Wren
    American Robin
    
    
    Birds we missed:
    Kept our eyes peeled for Blue Grosbeak but none raised
    their heads - my luck with this bird has just gotta change!
