I went today 3/15 to find the singing Calif. Thrasher. He was near where he
has been previously found. (The north side of the Roundtop loop trail,
through the cattle gate, below the water tower, downhill side) He was
singing in a very quiet voice (I've never heard one but compared to a
mocker). I later heard him near the road-trail junction described by Travis,
in the same quiet voice. This was a very productive area. Walking up the
newly paved road to the water tower I had great close up and personal
unobscured looks at a WRENTIT who was still there when I left 20 minutes
later. There were 2 FOX Sparrows here with some crowned sparrows. Back at
the junction were a trio of VARIED THRUSHES and 1 HERMIT THRUSH working in
the mud puddles under high brush. They were flushed a couple of times by
passing dogs but came back. Heard only was an ORANGE CROWNED Warbler. There
were at least 3 GOLDEN EAGLES present and probably a 4th.
