    Hi, all.
This morning I looked out at my feeder and all the
usual visitors (house sparrows, house finches, juncos
and mourning doves) weren't there. I soon discovered
the reason--a first year Cooper's hawk was perched at
deck level in a small plum tree. It sat there looking
around for a short time and took off. A little bit
later I caught him landing in another plum that many
of the birds sit in of a morning, but he didn't stay
    long.
I occasionally see Coops perched in our old walnut
tree, but I've never seen one come this close to the
    house.
There are also occasional Coops (or Sharpies--I
don't always get a good look)relatively low in the
trees along the wall behind the Rockridge Branch
Library, where I work. The latest sighting was late
last week. This area is also regularly patrolled by an
    Anna's hummer.
    Cheers,
    Alan Howe
