Hello, this morning I had the opportunity to go birding with fellow Pleasanton resident and long-time birder Rich Cimino. I met him at his home at 8:30a.m. and picked up my 1st "lifer" for the day in his backyard, a juvenile White-throated Sparrow. His yard also included Golden-crowned and White-crowned Sparrows, House Finches, and American Goldfinches. We then went over to Shadow Cliffs Rec. Area. There I was able to pick up my 2nd and 3rd "lifers". We found the Red-necked Grebe out at the north shore of the lake and after shifting positions several times finally got a wonderful look at it thru Rich's scope. As we were leaving the park thru the back entrance we spotted a California Thrasher perched up in a tree. We then watched it fly into some bushes and then come out and scurry back and forth across the path we were walking along. We finished up and were back at Rich's house by approximately 11:45a.m. My bird list for the morning totaled 46 different species. Thank you Rich for a great morning of birding.
