In Oakland's Laurel nr 35th Ave an MacArthur. Hooded
like a magpie or a junco, down to mid-breast, smaller
than a robin and with a skinny beak. Black and white,
lots of bright white below the hood.
Maybe it washed itself in the puddle on my roof. All
the birds come to Spa Marcus for their bath. Closest
thing I can see in my books is an adult male Canadian
junco...no way eh? Magpie? But no distinctive colors.
Size similar to the hooded oriole that hung around
last summer. Just a strongly contrasting black/white.
Perched about 10 ft away from my dog and I for a few
seconds and then flew off as my brain registered "gee
I haven't seen that around here before."
A high chirp chirp chirp. No pitch change from chirp
    to chirp.
Maybe it will come by again tomorrow when I'm
    gardening.

I like these days of mystery.
