We saw a pair of yellow billed magpies yesterday in Benicia on the roof
of a house overlooking the straits on I Street near the corner of 4th
St., across from Arneson Park. They flew off to the northwest, but we
couldn't locate them thereafter. Although this is not in the East Bay
proper, it is a wake up alert to be on the lookout for them moving west
from the Central Valley and Delta areas this time of year.

We have also been watching a flock of 30 turkeys fly from one side of
our valley to the other (a distance of about 1/4 mile) in the mornings
and evenings. It only requires a few flaps and a long glide for these
big birds to fly that distance. They usually land close to a grove of
trees and quickly disappear into cover.
