At Pt Lobos in Carmel last week, there was a perched Peregrine eagerly plucking the feathers off of a songbird it had just caught and killed.  Feathers were flying!  While I know this is common behavior, it was still quite a sight!

A large flock of Cedar Waxwings was circling the area. A unusually large 
number of Red-breasted Mergansers was on the lagoon. The Spotted Sandpiper 
was in his usual spot on the rocks along the bay at Ferry Point.
