      Hello E. B. Birders,

This morning there was a male "Prairie" Merlin (F. c. richardsonii) in the tall, leafless tree at the northeast corner of Doyle Street and 61st Street in Emeryville. He was there when I arrived at work at 7:50 am and stayed until 8:25 am, when he finally flew due east at top speed toward the Berkeley Hills. I watched him until he became just a speck in the sky. You've just got to wonder what sort of agenda that bird had.

This leafless tree has been a favorite for Merlins in past winters, too.
