Most days I walk from my home in Emeryville all the way around Aquatic
Park, then back home. I carry weights in my hands, so I don't carry
binoculars. But I do count the bird species I see. Today I saw 28! Two
were while I was still in Emeryville; the lawn geese on the football
field at Emery High and a male Anna's Hummingbird at 53rd & Hollis.

Only one more bird gets specific comment. There was a Norther Harrier at
Aquatic Park! The only time in many years of walking there that I have
seen a swamp hawk there, although they can be expected at several other
    locations in the east bay.

Let's see if I can remember all 25 others:

    Pelican
    Double Crested Cormorant
    Yellow Rumped Warbler
    Great Egret
    Snowy Egret
    Black Crowned Night Heron
    Green Heron
    American Coot
    Bufflehead
    Common Goldeneye
    California Towhee
Red Breasted Merganser (but no Hooded Mergansers yet)
    Mallard
    Crow
    American Avocet
    Black Necked Stilt
    Dunlin
    Peeps (no binoculars, remember?)
California Gull -- There were several other kinds of Gulls, but no
                        binoculars.
    Foerster's Tern
    Pied Billed Grebe
    Black Phoebe
    Kingfisher
    Willet
Hmph. Can't remember the last one. But I did count up to 28.
