We saw three of 'em, also the sooty variety, this morning on the Golden
Gate Audubon monthly trip - two in the fenced garden and one under the
oaks across the street, between the garden center and the bandstand. And
32 other species - not a lot, for Lake M. and environs, but some really
good views of some really enjoyable birds. Highlights (aside from the
    usual suspects):

Horned and Pied-billed Grebes and a flock of early Ruddy Ducks
    Glaucous-winged Gulls
    Belted Kingfisher, with fish
    Nuttall's Woodpecker
    Northern Flicker
    Warbling Vireo
Bewick's Wren - posing for us
Townsend's Warblers of assorted age and sex

All told, another happy 4th Wednesday for 11 birders. Seeya October 26,
9:30 am between the nature center and the lake....
