Sadly one of the 3 juvenile Cooper's Hawks that hated in my backyard tree
was put down today by animal control. Apparently my neighbor found the bird
flopping around in the street after dark last night. He captured the bird
using a fishing net and placed it in a box for the night. Animal control
came to retrieve the bird today while I was at work. It's wing was badly
broken along with a few other contusions. My spouse asked that they call us
with news regarding it's fate. So animal control called this afternoon to
tell my spouse that the bird was probably hit by a car and was put down.

The three juveniles have been a real joy to watch as they grew. In the last
two weeks they have been flying around, chasing each other and generally
enjoying life. I know the mortality rate of raptors is very high so I hope
at least one will survive to haunt my bird feeders next year.
