I have watched this site for many years and wrote a children's book called
Golden Eagles of Devil Mt. (Grolier 2000) about their old nest site here. An
arson fire destoyed this and an alternative nest. This new site near the road has
just been built. I'm pretty sure no birds have ever fledged from this nest,
and they were not always successful breeders in the old nest, so implicaing
recent disturbance as the cause of failure is problematic. This site has been
monitored for years by the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Group so they should know
how successful this territory has been.
