    I was doing a cormorant survey there last Thursday and spoke to Stephanie, 
    the ranger. And indeed she reiterated that Lake Merritt is a nature center and 
    all wildlife is encouraged. She also mentioned that the 3:30 feeding 
    contributes little to geese feed, they prefer grass, but was on the chopping block 
    because of the perceived contribution to goose diet. A discussion is taking place 
    in house there about geese numbers, although numbers in summer are high and 
    drop off as young fledge they have been consistent over the years at about 500 
    breeding pairs.
