    Hi all.
A number of mornings this week I've heard birdcalls
I'm not used to in my back yard (North Oakland, 5
blocks south of the Berkeley line, just east of MLK).
This morning I had my suspicions confirmed--I was
hearing mockingbirds (and probably others) harrassing
a raptor. I got a brief glimpse of a juvenile Coopers
hawk when it alighted briefly on a neighbor's roof.
The fact that I've heard the mobbing a number of
times makes me wonder if the Coop is trying to take up
    temporary residence in the area.

I've noted the prairie falcon sitings with interest.
I'm not sure it's noteworthy either, but in February
or March of last year, my son and I got a great look
at one at Morgan Territory Regional Preserve (not
horribly far from the recent sitings). Appropriately
enough, we were on the Prairie Falcon Trail. We took a
spur to look out over the cliffs and, when I turned my
head, there was a the falcon maybe 15 or 20' away. It
sat there on the top of the cliff and watched us watch
it for maybe 10 minutes. We then left, but the bird
    stayed put.

    Cheers,
    Alan Howe
