    Don,
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are rare visitors to the East Bay but for at least
the past ten years or so there has been at least one or two males found, mostly
in wooded suburban areas of Central Contra Costa County. Another was found
this summer at a feeder in Martinez on 7/7. It is certainly possible that females
are also appearing but slipping under the radar as they are only slightly
    different than female Black-headeds.
Is this bird still present? If not, what is the last day you saw it?
    Neat bird!
