I didn't know how aggressive mourning doves were until two decided to
join the 'flock' under our feeder. ?They chase after the other birds
and drive then away, and now I notice that, except for a couple of
brave juncos, when the mourning doves are there, the other birds stay
away. ?Generally, the doves come later than the sparrows, so don't
    interfere too much.

My friend has an hilarious story about how stupid mourning doves can
be. ?She once saw a pair try to construct a nest on one wire. ?One of
the birds would fly off and bring back nesting material and put it on
the wire. ?The piece of whatever it was would fall off, and then the
other dove would fly away, bring back another bit of nesting material
and place it in the exact same place. It, too, would fall off. ?This
behavior continued for at least fifteen minutes until the birds
finally flew off together, presumably to find a more conducive nesting
place. I think Gary Larson could have done something great with this
    story.
