As the weather has warmed, things have changed in the bird world. We have a
continuing pair of Greater Scaup on the mostly natural big pond in Heather
Farm Park in Walnut Creek. Though I didn't see it today, a White-throated
Sparrow was present through at least Monday at the south end of the
equestrian area. A Mockingbird was even around, the first I have seen in a
long time. Monday the Red-shouldered Hawk was in the second Eucalyptus tree
from the Contra Costa Canal, probably trying to find its former nest tree,
which the City removed along with others. An Anna's Hummingbird is sitting
on her nest near the northwest corner of the large pond. The Red-winged
Blackbirds are singing, the Nuttall's Woodpeckers are drilling and chasing
and the Oak Titmouses are singing up a storm. Interestingly, the hundreds
of Robins which have been around for several weeks disappeared since Monday.

This morning I hollered at a woman who climbed through the fence of the
equestrian area with her small, on-leash dog, then proceeded to run at the
flock of 50-60 grazing Canada Geese, urging her dog to, "Get "em, get 'em!"
I was actually polite enough to ask her to please exercise her dog in the
dog park, park being the only 4-letter word I used.
