This afternoon at 4 PM the FERRUGINOUS HAWK was present in Fremont on the fields west of the industrial park off of Nobel Dr. This bird is a light morph juvenile and has been present for a week now. This afternoon it was sitting on top of a NWR sign that is probably more than 3/4 of the way from the parking lot to the railroad tracks.
A PEREGRINE FALCON flew in from the east over my head and hunted the nearest field. It made a turn and buzzed the FEHA, forcing it off its favored perch. I watched the Peregrine as it continued on and made a few unsuccessful attempts to catch gulls over the ponds. At that point I'd lost track of the Ferruginous Hawk, but another scan found it sitting on the ground further to the south.
Also present in the area were RED-TAILED HAWK, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, NORTHERN HARRIER, and KESTRELS.

Directions. From Auto Mall Pkwy go south on Cushing Pkwy then turn right on Bunche Dr. Bunche Dr. curves to the right and becomes Nobel Dr. Turn Left into the parking lot of the industrial park at the "Elite Group" sign. Follow the parking lot to the back where you can overlook the fields. I set up my scope on the concrete ACWD block and scan the fields. The bird has typically been seen slightly to the south in the direction of Santa Clara.
