At noon on Wednesday, 12/9, the redhead was in her usual spot at Lake Merritt near the sphere.? She looks good despite her fondness for bread tossed by onlookers (sigh).? She was hanging out in a crowd of scaups, coots, and canvasbacks.?

We also saw the hooded merganser x Barrow's goldeneye hybrid from the arched bridge over Laney Pond.? What a beautiful little duck!? He popped up right away below the bridge, clearly anticipating handouts (which he did not get from us).? A common goldeneye was checking him out.  We found plenty of available metered parking along 10th St. at Laney College mid-day.
