Mid-day today Emilie Strauss found two less-common bird species near the
Bay in Berkeley. Both were also seen by Helen Green and Kay Loughman.

CACKLING GOOSE, keeping company with two Canada Geese on the south side
of University Avenue, 100+ yards west of the Seabreeze Market.

AMERICAN PIPIT - at least ten in Cesar Chavez Park. From University
Avenue, turn right onto Marina Blvd. and then left onto Spinnaker Way.
Drive almost to the turnaround circle and park on Spinnaker. Walk north
from the entry to the OCSC parking lot - going up the paved pathway that
has the large shrub land to the west and the grassy knob to the East.
The birds were on that grassy knob - sometimes on the far side of it.
The pipits were not far from where both Lark and Vesper sparrows were
reported in the last week. We looked for, but did not find the latter
    species.

For those who want to see another unusual-for-Berkeley species, there
were at least three WESTERN BLUEBIRDS in Berkeley Meadow. Park behind
the Seabreeze Market, and cross University Avenue to enter the Berkeley
Meadow gate. Proceed north, keeping the big willow clump on the left.
Stop at the informational sign "What Lives Here..." and look east.

In addition to those mentioned above, 35 other species were seen in the
same area between noon and 2pm.
