Eighteen participants at Ohlone Audubon's field trip to the Berkeley Pier and Cesar Chavez Park at high tide this morning enjoyed perfect weather and excellent birding, seeing about 48 species.? At least 8 COMMON LOONS were seen off the pier, a BLACK TURNSTONE was on the old pier, 2 PELAGIC CORMORANTS were on the concrete breakwater at the marina entrance, and TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, and a HERMIT THRUSH were in the trees along University Avenue near the foot of the pier. 3 COMMON GOLDENEYES and a RED-THROATED LOON were in North Basin (seen from Marina Blvd.) 2 BURROWING OWLS were behind the red plastic fence in the "protected natural area" at the northeast corner of Cesar Chavez Park.? HORNED GREBES were seen from the pier and at North Basin.
