Though it is not the first report of the fall, it was nice to return from a
1-1/2 hour bike ride and have some Cedar Waxwings in the trees just down the
block from our house. We live just north of Heather Farm Park in Walnut
Creek.
An hour or so later, I watched a neighbor, Tim, walk with his guide dog
along the sidewalk right under a young Cooper's Hawk. The bird seemed to be
nervous about this, but didn't fly. I started to move to the other side of
the street so I could see the bird with better light, when the bird did fly,
but it dove into a tree right in front of me. There was a squawk, a bird
flew over me to the east and the Cooper's Hawk disappeared between two
houses to the west.
