[EBB Sightings] Hooded Merganser x Barrow's Goldeneye

Today in the channel that connects Lake Merritt, Oakland with the estuary I had my first-of-season look at this now familiar duck.

The duck was in the channel as it goes through Laney College, near the east end of the foot bridge.? This area is best reached from 10th Ave or 8th Ave just west of 2nd Street.? When Laney College is in session, parking can be difficult, but pay parking is usually available at the Kaiser Convention Center on 10th.

This male duck returns yearly, and is quite striking.? If you have not seen it, you should consider it.? Googling the Subject line of this message will get you pictures of this bird.
