Several Mt. Diablo Audubon members joined to assist Cecil Williams, from the
Wild Birds Unlimited store in Pleasant Hill, present an introductory bird
program to children at the Moraga Library today. A highlight was finding an
Acorn Woodpecker nest on the hillside right behind the building. We watched
Scrub Jays, Mourning Doves and finches for quite a while. Just before most
of the children left, a California Quail called from the brush, which caused
quite a stir amongst the crowd. They had heard two recordings of it inside
    during Cecil's program.

Unfortunately, after all the children left and it was just we volunteers,
Cecil, the librarian and a library volunteer, we saw a Red-tailed Hawk soar
above us. That was nice, but a few minutes later, Cecil looked up and
brought our attention to the large Bald Eagle which was passing overhead.
The Red-tailed Hawk was right behind it, looking pretty small by comparison.

Too bad the kids had already left, but they did have a chance to practice
with some binoculars, see through a spotting scope and take home a nice
"treasure bag" with information and a few other items.
