I birded at Garin today and last Thursday.
Last Thursday, the highlight was hearing a varied thrush and seeing an oriole on the same day.
Today, I hiked up on the ridge. I was surprised to find a burrowing owl in the Garin colony. Since it appears they don't use this colony during the summer, shouldn't this bird be gone by now?
The California thrashers are singing in their usual place along the ridge. There were several FOS birds, including a house wren, Wilson's warbler and numerous orange-crowned warblers.
Got a good view of a Say's phoebe sitting on the fence eating a butterfly, and of a harrier flying around with a mouse in his talons, and a kite dive-bombing a red-tail.
Absolutely glorious day.
Sue
