Hello! I have been fortunate to have a neighbor who has had nesting
Western Bluebirds in her Bluebird box for at least 3 years now. I see
Mom and Pop in my yard hunting for bugs, and the little ones haven't
ventured out yet. I can't wait to meet the whole family!
I did think that I saw a male and female Rufous Hummingbird (3/20),
but when the female came again today I realized she is an Allen's and
so he must be too!
I do proudly have, for the second year in a row, House Finches nesting
in one of my hanging planters. Fortunately, I bought some watering
tools that will hopefully keep the plant alive while the family lives
there this year. Last years plant was a casualty, but not the
birds...so it was worth the sacrifice!
On Wednesday, I put up a new feeder to attract Chickadee's, etc., but
quickly had to move it to another spot when a male Hooded Oriole came
calling (3/20) and protesting that "HIS" feeder was not out yet! He
made me move pretty quickly to the storage area, and it is now up, and
he has been happily drinking his nectar!
I still have the regular group of Mourning Doves, Scrub Jays, American
Gold Finches, Bewicks Wrens, White Crowned Sparrows, White Breasted
Nuthatches, Northern Flickers and Robins, and they are all being
chased by the Sharp Shinned Hawk. The local Red Tailed Hawks are
always here along with the Black-Shouldered Kites (or white-tailed
kites) and Turkey Vultures.
Such fun to look out back! I hope you all enjoy your backyards too!
