Between the downpours Helene Cavior and I went raptor counting this morning
circling Lower Jones Tract. Among the usual suspects we saw two Great Horned
Owls sitting on nests. The first on the left in a tree very soon after
starting on Bacon Island Rd and the second in a tree on the left across the canal
at about 16 miles thru the loop and before intersecting Whiskey Slough Rd. We
know this nest to be a RTHA's last year. It pays to be checking what you
think are Red Tail nests right now for tell tale "ears".
