I was up there yesterday afternoon and also didn't see the waterthrush. (I did notice, for what it's worth, that the "scuzzy" guys tended to stay away when they saw my binoculars.) There was a very noisy mixed flock of blackbirds in the thicket and a few sleeping black-capped night herons.
I did see a couple of fox sparrows on the land between the north and middle ponds. Also seen: canvassbacks, buffleheads, (greater?) scaup, one male and a few female common goldeneyes, coots (of course) and snowy and great egrets.
While I'm here, I should report that I spent some fruitful hours at MLK Shoreline on Monday. It was duck city, at least in species; some only had 1 or 2 representatives. Many of these were around Garretson Point, either in the pond, or the creek and outlet.
    green-winged teal,
    American wigeon,
    mallard,
    northern pintail,
    northern shoveler,
    canvassback,
    cinamon teal,
scaup--lesser, at least, perhaps also greater,
    surf scotter,
    ruddy duck,
    bufflehead,
    common goldeneye.
      Also among those seen:
    black-necked stilt,
    black phoebe,
    american avocet,
    western and Clark's grebes,
    marbled godwit,
    black turnstone,
other shorebirds I'm not sure about (one of these days...),
    great blue heron,
    great egret,
    brown pelican,
    white-crowned sparrow,
    golden-crowned sparrow,
    song (?) sparrow,
    California towhee,
    northern mockingbird,
    Virginia rail,
    common yellowthroat,
wren--I would expect a swamp; it was small, but in the short glimpses I had it seemed to have a stronger eye stripe.. Bewicks?,
    crow,
    bushtit,
    ring-billed gulled,
other sparrows I couldn't quite figure out.
It was a great time--and I even got to meet Bob Battigan!
    New Year blessings,
