[EBB Sightings] Los Vaqueros Res. - Lewis's Woodpeckers and other species

Hello E. B. Birders,

I went out to Los Vaqueros Res. in East Contra Costa this afternoon to look at the recently reported Lewis's Woodpeckers. They were easy to find in the oaks along the creek within the first quarter mile of the parking lot at Walnut Staging area. At least five were flycatching and caching small items in holes. One was a hatching year bird with dark face and just a bit of pink on the belly.

Other species seen at Los Vaqueros included adult Bald Eagle, Barn Owl, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and House Wren.

On the way home, I saw an additional Lewis's Woodpecker on the utility pole in the middle divide at the intersection of Marsh Creek and Camino Diablo Roads.
