Mountain View Sanitary District has a wonderful property between I-680 and
the Shell refinery. We walked around there today with Dick Bogaert, their
biologist. What a pleasant morning. We also checked out McNabney Marsh in
Waterbird Regional Preserve, a property of the East Bay Regional Park
District. This is to the east of the freeway. Altogether we had 60
species, sorry Jean, two Gadwalls flew in just after you left.

It was a 5-Heron day, but no Bitterns. Four raptors were seen in Mt. View
Sanitary, Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawk, an American Kestrel and an
Osprey. Over McNabney Marsh we added Turkey Vulture, White-tailed Kite and
Northern Harrier. Seven other duck species were also seen, none of them
    particularly rare.

All the ducks must be in the south part of the Bay, at least it seemed like
that Saturday. Our trip there had 17 duck species including Hooded
Merganser, Eurasian Wigeon, Barrow's Goldeneye and Blue-winged Teal. We did
not find the previously reported Redhead. That field trip took in the
Charleston Slough area, Shoreline Lake and the ponds at Radio Road in
Redwood Shores. A total of 82 species were recorded, many of them noted in
    Yahoo Groups South Bay Birds.
