Yesterday, Thurs. Sept. 18, at about 5 p.m. a Clapper Rail 'swam' across Meeker Slough on the bay side of the bridge (nearest cross street Bayside Drive at Marina Bay Parkway, Richmond). It bathed and preened for at least 5 minutes before disappearing into the vegetation.

Other birds around the dilapidated pier to the south of the bridge, included Red-necked phalaropes and Black Turnstone. Also in the Slough, the first Coots of the season and a handful of Green-winged Teal. I counted 23 teal in the slough last week at low tide.

If anyone would like directions to Meeker Slough please email me. Thanks.
