Hi birders,
I saw several Common Terns in Alameda today, at the harbor at Ballena Bay.
They were perched on the concrete breakwater and adjacent floating pier at
high tide. There were also many Forster's and Elegant Terns, many of the
latter showing a lovely pink color on their underparts. Other birds of note seen
there were one each of Spotted Sandpiper, Black Oystercatcher, and Heermann's
Gull.
To get to the best viewing spot, take Ballena Blvd. south from Central Ave.
Drive all the way around along the waterfront to where the road ends at the
gravel parking lot at the boat docks.
This is a new species for the ABY list (boy, it's been a long time since I
typed those words!).
Good birding,
Kathy Robertson
