Hi
I birded around my parents' house today on Old Millstone Lane in
Lafayette. There were a few interesting migrants around. Most were
in the large valley oaks. A Hammond's Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo,
and Western Tanager were all singing in the oaks while a silent
Yellow Warbler was just foraging. A Wilson's Warbler was singing in
some Black Locust trees. A singing Western Kingbird flew over
heading north. A Western Wood-Pewee gave a few descending "dreer"
calls. I also heard an unusually late Red-breasted Nuthatch calling
clearly for 5 minutes from a Monterey Pine. Unfortunately, this bird
was on private property and not visible. The Oak Titmice were busily
feeding their begging fledglings. A pair of Western Scrub-Jays were
making a nest in an oak above the driveway.
