    Hi all:

3 Red Phalaropes continued to delight the throng (me)
at Frank's Dump* this morning. The comings and goings
of Wilson's Phalaropes continue to be a puzzle wrapped
inside a conundrum shrouded in an enigma. Indubitably.

Yesterday afternoon I stopped in at Coyote Hills Reg.
Park. In the owl glen above the visitor center,
Swainson's Thrush, Western Wood-peewee, and Western
Tanager were all calling/singing. The nest in the bowl
of the big pine tree near the top of the ridge above
the visitor center revealed one barred tail-feather.
So Alameda County is the unofficial epicenter of the
Great-horned Owl population boom of 2008. Claremont
Canyon, Murietta's Well, and now Coyote Hills. One
could build a nice little field trip just by making
these nests the organizing theme. Or not. Just a
    suggestion.

The first mile of the Stream Trail at Redwood Regional
Park was nice and birdy with all of the following
    singing:
    Wilson's Warbler
    Warbling Vireo
    Orange-crowned Warbler
    Pacific-slope Flycatcher
    Black-headed Grosbeak
    Swainson's Thrush
    Western Tanager
    Purple Finch

Your results may differ. Don't try this at home.
    Good birding,

    * Frank's Dump is reached via Winton Ave., off of Hwy
880 in Hayward. Take Winton west to its terminus and
park inside or outside the parking area. Walk west to
the Bay Trail, then north 8 minutes. Frank's Dump is
the large wetland pond that opens up on your right,
    east of the trail.
