    Hi E.B. Birders,

Today at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in
Antioch, Albany Adult School's Birding by Ear class
watched a Canyon Wren enter and exit a barred,
abandoned mine. The bird flew in and to the right of
the entrance, but out of sight. We could hear the
young within the mine begging, but could not see them.

To locate this area, take the steep sandstone Loop
Trail uphill beyond the Hazel Atlas Portal (see EBRP
online trail map of B.D. Mines).?At one point, you
will be looking up the trail at a single bush poppy on
the right.? Below and not far from this bush poppy
there is the name "Tobias" carved into the sandstone.?
Head right and walk along a plateau on a small trail
to the barred mine at the end.

I had found the Canyon Wren by the buzzy call note,
not the descending song.? Please do not use tapes to
attract this bird, as they are working hard just to
keep the young fed at this point.? Give the bird lots
of space to fly in and out of the mine.

We also watched Prairie Falcon at the top of the
    Chaparral Ridge Trail.

    All the Best Birding,
