I took a morning walk at Tilden from the nature center past Jewel Lake
this morning. Territorial battles between Wilson's Warblers were so
intense as to be frightening. At one point a bird landed on the
boardwalk, right in front of me, frantically looking left, right, left,
right... like I wasn't there. The chases were something; I didn't
realize warblers could fly that fast.
Later a young Bald Eagle soared overhead. Seems there are no two alike.
This one had quite a pale, almost white belly, pale underwing coverts,
and a bill that was beginning to turn yellow. The eagle soared in big
lazy loops, drifting eastward.
No Bunting song yet.
