I sent a posting to EBB sightings last night, but for some reason it hasn't
posted. (It was plain text.) I was tired and did not send it to the BABP
list. If you want to send it to either/both, go ahead.

The owlets are in Claremont Canyon Reserve near the Claremont Hotel. The
easiest way to get there is to continue up CLAREMONT Avenue in Berkeley PAST
the hotel (on your RIGHT) then take a LEFT turn at either:
1)STONEWALL ROAD - drive up 75 yards to the entrance, do a U-turn and there
is some parking, OR
2) TANGLEWOOD ROAD - (the prior left) Go to end and park. Climb up the
concrete stairs marked TANGLEWOOD PATH to the reserve.

Go another 100 yards, and the nest is right over the road on the right about
30 feet up a Eucalyptus. It is best seen by going past it and looking back,
or even
better by scrambling up the 10 foot bank on the uphill side and looking
directly into the nest (my photo). There will probably be a crowd of folks
there who will
point them out to you.
The best view is by clambering up the bank opposite the nest. If that looks
a bit scary (it did to me), you can also get to that spot by climbing up the
slope about 50 yards down the fire road (also a much easier way of coming
down). Beware the POISON OAK. I was careful and still got a couple of dabs.
