My class from Merritt College enjoyed detecting the following species of both local interest and seasonal/phenological intrigue:
Valle Vista Staging Area (Canyon Rd.)
- SWAINSON?S THRUSH (4 heard, including two different call patterns (but no song heard) ); thanks and kudos to Roger Hartwell, who first heard one call pattern made by the first individual
- WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE (1 seen)
Pinehurst Rd (via Canyon Rd.)
- WINTER WREN (2 heard singing)
- PILEATED WOODPECKER (1 female seen and heard)
E.B.M.U.D. San Pablo Reservoir area
- RUFOUS HUMMING. (1, male, seen, including characteristic courtship ?shallow U-shaped flight dance?)
- PURPLE FINCH (1 male, seen)
- COOPER'S HAWK (1) (ID'ed by Harv Wilson intially)

Also worth mentioning:
- two kinds of song patterns detected in WILSON'S WARBLER (San Pablo Res. area)
- two kinds of song patterns heard from ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER (same area)
