Dear Birders:
Yesterday morning Emily Strauss and I made the Jewel Lake circuit
beginning along the Pack Rat Trail which crosses the slope densely
wooded with oaks and bays. Wilson's Warblers are singing on territory
now joining the Orange-crowned Warblers who were singing alone two
weeks ago. Other prominent members of the chorus will be arriving next
month -- Black-headed Grosbeaks, Warbling Vireos, and finally the
virtuoso flautist -- the Swainson's Thrush.
On the lake, wintering Buffleheads and a female Common Goldeneye remain
-- but not for long.
