Dear Ebb'ers:
I found where the Surfbirds in Pinole have decided to hang out. At about 6 PM today, I stopped by the end of Tennent Ave again, just for fun. The tide was going out, and I walked the short trail on the other side of the tracks (CAUTION-many fast-moving trains along there) south of the channel.
There were 4 Surfbirds in alternate plumage in the riprap, hanging out with 6 Black Turnstones in formal attire. There were also BB Plovers, a cupala Semi-Palmated Plovers, Dunlins halfway to alternate plumage, an assortment of gulls (more than yesterday), Sanderlings, Western Sandpipers, Willets, 17 Forester's Terns, 2 Caspian Terns, and an assortment of ducks. Barn Swallows were busy over the channel. Very easy viewing from a bench on a little berm. Other than the smell of the sewage treatment plant, it was a lovely place to see quite a few birds.
Again, thank you Laura for providing us new places to look,
Pat Bacchetti
